PicTrax is an Australian photography app which asks users to take photos of their adventures and upload them to the app where they will all come together to create a unique catalogue of car and road trip imagery.
As the photographer, you can choose whether to remain anonymous or disclose who you are on the app which geographically pins the photo to the event’s location and interfaces with directions on how other users can travel to it themselves
It all sounds very Instagram, so how do you make money from this you may be asking?
When you upload a photo to the app, you will then earn money in proportion to the photo’s popularity. The popularity is based on the number of votes an image receives from users who view it. Once your photo reaches a certain level of engagement, the credits earned can be transferred to you in cash.
As well as the money making aspect, the app also acts as a hold for photos of your personal travel and events diary which can be shared with family and friends. You can also browse through and find locations and events you may be interested in seeing for yourself.
Obelia McCormack who created the app says unlike Instagram and other image based apps, PicTrax has a more focused approach.
“PicTrax is primarily about the impressive views, outlooks and landscapes as well as the events held there. It’s not about a photo of a meal or a 21st birthday. That’s a keen difference between PicTrax and other apps – it’s scenery and happenings, rather than people pulling funny faces.
“As well as being designed for the amateur snapper, PicTrax also provides opportunity for budding professional photographers, to publish a portfolio URL and create an avenue for image sales.”
You can get the PicTrax app in the Apple App and Google Play stores.
So Australia, get snapping!
