Mazda has introduced an automatic option for the BT-50 4x4 Freestyle Cab Utility XTR.
It's a move aimed to fill a gap in the range, with Mazda claiming that as many as 43 per cent of BT-50 4x4 buyers want an auto. And, according to VFACTS, 4x4 customers account for as much as 65 per cent of BT-50 buyers, so automatic transmission availability for 4x4 variants is a must.
Before now, however, there was no such option available for the well-equipped and off-road-capable XTR Freestyle cab.
"In the BT-50, Mazda has a tough, powerful utility with the sophistication and comfort of an SUV," said Mazda Australia's national marketing director, Alastair Doak, as quoted in a press release.
"We have responded to increased customer demand for automatic transmissions by adding the BT-50 Freestyle Cab Utility XTR 4x4 with a six-speed automatic transmission to our award-winning utility line-up."
With the automatic fitted the BT-50 XTR retains its 3500kg towing capacity, thanks in large part to its 3.2-litre turbo-diesel engine, which develops 147kW and 470Nm. The automatic also enhances the XTR Freestyle 4x4's comfort and convenience features, which already number Bluetooth connectivity, satellite navigation, USB, dual-zone climate control, electric mirrors and 17-inch alloy wheels.
Price for the new variant is $48,890.
