Sporting a smooth new look inspired by the S-Class Coupe and packed with more equipment than equivalent C-Class sedan variants, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe arrives in Australia from April priced from $65,900.
As the style icon of the C-Class range, visual differences compared to the sedan include the obvious coupe silhouette and frameless two-door profile. The design is equal parts "sporty, vivid, sensual", according to Mercedes-Benz.
Longer, wider and lower than before, the entry-level model is priced $5000 above the equivalent C-Class sedan, but gets more equipment as standard such as AMG Line bodywork, power memory seats and a 360-degree parking camera.
In total there will be four models in the Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe range, which are priced as followed:
C 200 Coupe: $65,900
C 250 d Coupe: $74,900
C 300 Coupe: $83,400
AMG C 63 S Coupe: $162,400
The entry-level $66K C200 Coupe gets you LED headlights, 18-inch alloy wheels, nine airbags, automatic belt feeders, self-parking tech and a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine (135kW/300Nm, 6.0L/100km) hooked up to a seven-speed automatic transmission.
The only diesel offering, the C 250 d Coupe, gets everything the C 200 comes with while adding 19-inch AMG alloy wheels, privacy glass, leather upholstery, driver assistance tech and a 2.1-litre turbo-diesel engine (150kW/500Nm) that sips fuel at a miserly claimed rate of just 4.4L/100km.
Step up to the top-shelf C 300 Coupe and it gets all of the above along with a high-end Burmester audio system and a sports-exhaust hooked up to a high-output version of the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine (180kW/370Nm, 6.6L/100km), allowing it to sprint from 0-100 in 6.0 seconds flat.
Finally there's the fire-breathing Mercedes-AMG C 63 S Coupe, fitted with 20-inch alloy wheels, AMG engine mounts, performance exhaust and electronic diff, all melded with the car's bassy 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine (375kW/700Nm, 8.7L/100km).
As well as adding AMG performance seats, a head-up display, Nappa leather upholstery and a panoramic sunroof, the high-performance AMG C-Class Coupe rips to 100km/h in 3.9 seconds.
But if that's not enough there's always the Edition 1 Package, which adds another $10,900 on top of the V8 Coupe's $162,400 price, but buys you more aggressive aero bodywork, ceramic brakes and special Selenite Grey magno paint with yellow decals.
The German car-maker will also introduce a new 'mid-strength' AMG version late in 2016, the Mercedes-AMG C 43 Coupe.
Powered by a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 (270kW/520Nm), it's likely to be priced at around $120,000 and could be a popular alternative to the C 63 Coupe.
