The Mercedes-Benz S-Class flagship is the reigning World Luxury Car of the Year – and now it's also officially a global sell-out.
Even though Benz’s biggest limo (for now) has been on sale for over a year internationally, it has proved so popular at the big end of town that Mercedes says it has filled its order book for 2014 and into 2015.
“The S-Class has had 100 per cent (sales) growth so far this year,” S-Class Chief Engineer Dr Hermann Storp explained this week.
“Production for 2014 is officially sold out.”
The S-Class news comes on the back of Mercedes-Benz claiming 14 per cent sales growth, year-on-year, to the end of May this year, led by a 20 per cent sales jump for compact models (A-, B- and CLA-Class) and a 24.5 per cent spike in sales of the facelifted E-Class.
In Australia, where more long-wheelbase versions and the S 300 BlueTEC Hybrid have just joined the new S-Class line-up released here earlier this year, S-Class sales have spiked a massive 168 per cent this year, with 126 customers helping Mercedes-Benz to a 16 per cent overall sales increase.
