New BMW 1 Series pricing announced

Second-generation 1 Series petrol and diesel hatch range arrives Down Under with pricing from $36,990

BMW has today announced pricing for its new 1 Series hatch range.

The second-generation 1 Series will launch locally with two petrol and one diesel engines available, offering customers a five per cent reduction in the entry price-point to the BMW range.

At the entry end, the 116i, priced at $36,990. It is powered by an all-new 1.6-litre (100kw/220Nm) four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine BMW says offers the same output as the previous entry model, the 118i. Despite this, the new base model delivers a 24 per cent improvement in fuel economy (now 5.7L/100km) when compared to the outgoing model. CO2 emissions are 132g/km.

The second petrol variant, the new 118i, features a higher output version of the same 1.6-litre engine (125kW/250Nm) and is priced from $42,800. This version has an average fuel consumption figure of 5.9L/100km and CO2 emissions of 137g/km.

Finally, the 1 Series hatch range is completed by a four-cylinder turbodiesel model, the 118d. This 2.0-litre model develops an output of 105kW/320Nm with an average fuel economy figure of just 4.5L/100km. CO2 emissions are 118g/km. It is priced from $43,500.

Across the range the highly-specified 1 Series includes Bluetooth connectivity, an MP3 compatible single-CD tuner with USB interface, idle start-stop system, keyless engine start, iDrive controller and 6.5-inch free-standing colour screen.

Both 118i and 118d models add rear parking sensors, dual-zone climate control, electrochromatic rear-view mirror, foglamps, rain-sensing wipers and 17-inch alloy wheels.

All models are available optionally with an eight-speed automatic transmission ($2700) with parking assistant, rear-view camera and lane departure systems also available. Two option packages, the Sport Line and Urban Line are also available, with more detail on each to follow shortly.

The all-new BMW 1 Series will be in local showrooms from October 22.
