The new-generation BMW 5 Series Touring will be revealed next autumn (March-May 2024) and the large luxury wagon range will mirror that of the eighth-generation BMW 5 Series sedan line-up that arrives Down Under by the end of this year, BMW has confirmed.
That means that for the first time there will be battery-electric i5 and twin-turbo V8-powered M5 versions of the 5 Series Touring.
What this means for Australia remains to be seen given the 2024 BMW 5 Series Touring is yet to be locked in for our market, and if it does end up coming here it’s unlikely Aussies will have access to the new M5 Touring as well as the new 520i, i5 eDrive40 and i5 M60 xDrive wagons.
The latter outputs 442kW/820Nm but will likely pale in comparison to the eventual BMW M5 monster that’s been confirmed to be produced in both sedan and Touring forms, the latter of which has already been teased via social media.
Pending market approval, it’ll likely be a while before we see any new 5 Series Touring vehicles in local showrooms, which have traditionally housed just one 5 Series wagon variant, and given we’re still waiting for the new G60-series sedan to arrive here we’d guess the five-door wouldn’t be released locally until late 2024 or even early 2025, with the M5 set to follow several months behind.
Australian pricing for the new 5 Series sedans (520i, i5 and i5 M60) ranges between $114,900 and $215,900, plus on-road costs.
Today’s announcement was accompanied by a fresh teaser image of the 5 Series Touring showing off its elegant silhouette against some dull backlighting in a darkened studio.
