More than three years after his death in the Targa West rally Peter Brock remains one of the most popular figures in Australian motorsport. Now comes a new book, 'BROCKY Peter's Own Story: A Life in Top Gear', that covers his remarkable life and career but promises something different than other works on Brock.
Author David Hassall, a leading motoring journalist, says Brock himself approved much of the book before his death.
"When Peter tragically died in 2006, the outpouring of grief from all around Australia underscored how this charismatic hero had touched the nation like few other sporting champions," says Hassall.
"For those who knew him, it was a personal loss, but for millions of other Australians it was also like the loss of a friend because that was the type of man he was, always giving of his time and touching anyone he met.
"Much of the book was written at the height of his powers in 1983 and then after he retired from racing in 1997, with extra chapters covering the rest of his life, so pulling it all together was a trip down memory lane and done with real love for an old friend.
"I simply hope that his legion of fans enjoy reading BROCKY as much as I enjoyed putting it together."
BROCKY is available from $34.95 at select bookstores or visit www.palmerhiggsbooks.com.au to order online.
