New Chevrolet Corvette already crashed

What looks like the first public C8 Corvette crash hits our screens – and no one seems surprised

The all-new 2020 Chevrolet Corvette is still at least a year away from Aussie Holden showrooms, and the hype surrounding the first mid-engined – and first global – version doesn’t look like settling down any time soon.

Now, one of them has been unlucky enough to be involved in what appears to be the first public road crash involving the new C8 Corvette.

Caught on camera and spreading like wildfire on social media, the damaged super-coupe was spotted “somewhere in California” in the US, according to an Instagram post by Wrecked Muscle Cars.

“My wife spotted this brand new wrecked #2020Corvette #Stingray on her way to Yosemite here in Ca. It was part of a rally of cars with GoPros mounted,” says the post.

The post went on to say that the Corvette made contact with an oncoming SUV, heaving damaging the front quarter of the C8, the front airbags in which were deployed.

As can be seen in a video taken by a Jalopnik reader on Saturday, the impact took a rear wheel off the SUV and another pick-up was also damaged in the incident on CA Route 120 between Moccasin and Groveland.

The general consensus on social media? “Well that didn’t take long”.

So far there’s too little information to know which driver was to blame for the accident, which reportedly took place during a GM development drive, although it appears nobody was injured.

That said, we can’t vouch for the ego of whoever was at the wheel of the C8, if he/she was indeed the cause of the landmark model’s first known public-road crash.
