BMW will offer M3 and M4 buyers a new competition package in coming months, to elevate the peak power from 317kW as standard to 331kW.
The power hike shaves a fraction of a second off the M-DCT-equipped models' 0-100km/h time, lowered from 4.1 to 4.0 seconds dead for the sedan and coupe, or down from 4.4 to 4.3 seconds for the convertible.
Cars with the six-speed manual transmission also see a 0.1-second reduction in the 0-100km/h time. Despite the improved performance, the fuel consumption remains within the range of 8.3-8.3L/100km for the sedan and coupe, or 9.1-8.7L/100km for the convertible.
In addition to the performance gain, the Competition Pack also incorporates Adaptive M Suspension for upgraded handling. Key features of the suspension include revised springs, dampers and anti-roll bar.
To match the boosted performance and handling, the Driving Experience Control (Comfort, Sport, Sport+) has been reconfigured, as have the standard Active M Differential and the stability control system.
The wheels for the cars equipped with the Competition Pack are forged alloys measuring 20-inch diameter (nine-inch front and 10-inch rear width). At the front, the wheels are shod with 265/30 R20 tyres, while the tyres at the rear measure 285/30 R20.
The M sports exhaust is tipped with black-chrome pipes. Other cosmetic features include high-gloss Shadow Line trim for the side windows, exterior mirror shells, the BMW grille kidneys, side vents and badge at the rear.
Inside, the Competition Pack provides a lift in the form of lightweight M sports seats with seatbelts featuring woven-in M stripes.
BMW has released no pricing information as yet for the Competition Package, which will be available in global markets from the northern hemisphere spring.
