New Falcon lure at You Yangs

Ford has a history of 'drip-feeding' promotional material to the press, so it's not too outrageous to suggest that Project Orion Falcons caught in the open may be part of Ford's advance publicity campaign. That's the line from one of the local websites, caradvice.com.au.

One of the site's photographers was in the happy position of obtaining long range photos of the new Ford as it paraded around the hard standing at the company's You Yangs proving grounds near Geelong in Victoria.

The wheels appear to be the same pattern and diameter as those fitted to the car recently seen off-loading from a container in Detroit (more here).

Viewed from the front 3/4 angle, the new Falcon is very 'wedgy’ and it does appear that Ford has addressed the common complaint with AU and BA/BA Falcons that the C pillars are too shallow for easy access to the rear seats.

Subsequent photos published on the web site show multiple variants in side profile. Tacked-on lower cladding likely conceals the lower swage line that was discernible in the Detroit picture.

Here's what we know or suspect about the new Falcon. It will retain the hard points of the BA/BF and is expected to continue with variations on the existing engine line-up -- including the in-line six -- but has been re-engineered for LHD, suggesting that it's under active consideration for export markets. The front suspension is expected to be a development of the Territory's, with its 'Virtual Pivot Control Link' system.

Coincidentally, a disguised cab chassis Orion Ute was spotted during Ford's own Fiesta XR4 launch yesterday (6 June). Alas, the brief nature of the encounter meant no photos could be taken.
