When the new Ford Everest touches down in Australia next year, it will come loaded with technologies from the 2022 Ford Ranger, including the option of a V6 diesel for the first time.
The all-new large off-road SUV – which is yet to be officially unveiled and has so far only surfaced in spy shots – is set to be available with the same F150-sourced 3.0-litre V6 turbo-diesel that’s just been confirmed for the new Ranger, on which the Everest is based.
The current Ford Everest range is offered with two turbo-diesel powertrains: a soon to be discontinued 143kW/470Nm 3.2-litre five-cylinder and a 157kW/500Nm twin-turbo 2.0-litre four-cylinder.
However, the 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 diesel engine (TDV6) to be offered in the upcoming 2022 Ford Ranger, paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission, is also certain to feature in range-topping Everest grades, alongside an upgraded version of the current 2.0-litre four-cylinder.
Overseas, the F-150’s PowerStroke 3.0-litre turbo-diesel V6 outputs around 186kW of power and just shy of 600Nm of torque. If it goes untouched for the Blue Oval brand’s smaller ute and SUV, the Everest would be the most powerful ute-based SUV option on the market, out-muscling the Toyota Fortuner’s 150kW/500Nm and the Isuzu MU-X’s 140kW/450Nm outputs.
That said, local outputs – even for the new Ranger – are yet to be revealed.
Inside the cabin, the new Everest will almost certainly get much of the same technologies revealed for the all-new Ranger ute, too, including a huge 12.0-inch portrait-style touch-screen and 12.4-inch digital instrument cluster for upstream variants.
Other new Ranger upgrades like new seats, a rotary gear selector and more soft-touch surfaces should also make their way into the Everest.
