New Ford Mustang 60th Anniversary Package honours first pony car

The Blue Oval has launched a new 2024 Ford Mustang 60th Anniversary Pack to commemorate 60 years and seven generation since the famous pony car was first launched at the 1964 World’s Fair in New York.

Available only with the 5.0-litre V8-powered Ford Mustang GT Premium, the new celebratory 60th Anniversary Pack can be specified in both coupe and convertible forms with either a manual or automatic transmission.

Said to introduce classic accents inspired by the original 1964 Mustang, the special Mustang gets new 60th Anniversary fender badging, fresh 20-inch alloy wheels with stamped aluminium centre caps that looks like the original’s, ‘60 Years’ lower side decals, a new grille with silver-accented ‘nostrils’ and smoked headlights with silver detailing.

Just three exterior paint colour options for the special Mustang will be available and both the Race Red and Vapour Blue hues will be accompanied by silver mirror caps, while cars painted Wimbledon White will get body-colour mirrors, replicating what Ford did on the original launch cars.

Inside, the cabin can be specified in Space Gray, Carmine Red or Black Onyx, and each of the 1965 vehicles will be fitted with a serialised instrument panel badge.

Pricing is yet to be announced, but the new Ford Mustang 60th Anniversary Package will become available to order in the US in the third quarter of this year, ahead of first deliveries there before the end of this year.

It’s unknown whether Ford Australia also plans to take part in the celebrations, or if any of the special commemorative decals will be offered via Ford dealers as accessories.

The new seventh-generation S650 Mustang is due to finally arrive Down Under by mid-2024.
