Rumours of the all-new 2024 Ford Mustang making its world debut at the North American International Auto Show in September have been officially confirmed by Ford.
Just 24 hours after it was first reported by Automotive News, Ford has confirmed it will reveal the seventh-generation Mustang in Detroit on September 14.
The confirmation came directly from Ford CEO Jim Farley via Twitter, where the Blue Oval’s global chief wrote: “Excited to confirm that we’ll unveil the all-new, seventh-generation @FordMustang [on] September 14 at the Detroit Auto Show.

“It’s a stunning car and I’m excited to share it with the world!”
Farley concluded his Tweet with the hashtag #SaveTheManuals, confirming the new-generation S650 Ford Mustang will continue to be available with a manual transmission and – by extension – V8 firepower.
As we reported yesterday, the new Ford Mustang is expected to be an evolution of the current S550 pony car rather than an entirely new model, with its platform and both four- and eight-cylinder powertrains (a V6 is also available in the US) tipped to be upgraded and carried over.
The confirmation of a September reveal all but confirms the rumoured March 2023 production start, which in turn makes it likely the new Mustang will make its Aussie debut in the second half of next year… pending any new production woes.
It also means the new Mustang will almost certainly be part of the new Gen3 Supercar era from 2023, with the race cars likely to be our first local exposure to the new S650 ahead of the first customer deliveries later in the year.
Demand for the new model is anticipated to be sky-high, not only because of the legion of fans it has attracted since 1964 – including the first global Mustang that continues to generate rampant demand long after it arrived Down Under in 2015 – but because of its status as the last affordable V8 passenger car available in Australia following the axing of the Chrysler 300.
