New Ford Mustang delayed
First Aussie deliveries of new-generation pony car now won’t take place until 2024The new 2024 Ford Mustang now won’t arrive Down Under until the first quarter of 2024, Ford Australia confirmed today.
Ford Australia previously said the all-new seventh-generation S650-series Mustang, which was revealed on September 15 last year, would be available here in the third quarter of 2023.
It is yet to update the delivery wait time section of its public website, which continues to invite potential buyers to sign up to receive updates for the new model, which replaces the original global S550 Mustang that’s now sold out.
“Interest in the All-New 2023 Mustang has been extraordinary since its global debut on the 15th of September. We encourage you to sign up to the All-New Mustang newsletter to keep you updated,” says the Ford Australia website.
In a statement issued to carsales today, however, Ford Australia said first local deliveries would now not take place until next year.
“Production for Australia-bound Mustangs is set to begin by late this year. Due to significant shipping time between the plant in Flat Rock, Michigan and Australia, we expect first arrivals in Q1, 2024,” said Ford.
It’s not clear whether Ford will also push back the announcement of Australian pricing and specs, which – according to an image of a Ford Australia dealer bulletin posted to the Mustang7G forum in April – were due to be released in the second quarter of this year (by the end of next month)
However, as we’ve previously reported, the new Mustang – which is already doing motorsport duty in the Australian Supercars series – is expected to be considerably more expensive than the sold-out model it replaces.
Based on US pricing, which increases by up to eight per cent, the new Mustang could start at around $58,000 plus on-road costs for the entry-level four-cylinder HP Fastback auto, increasing to more than $73,000 for the V8-powered GT Fastback manual.
The new 373kW Dark Horse flagship coupe, meantime, could be priced as high as $90,000 and its optional Australian-made carbon-fibre wheels could cost as much as $12,000 extra.
