Ford Australia has confirmed the arrival of the 12-seater 2021 Ford Transit Bus to its fleet.
The new passenger-oriented model joins the existing Ford Transit fleet in Australia, combining a 12-seat layout with a diesel powertrain and the latest safety technology including autonomous emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian detection.
Priced from $63,690 plus on-road costs, the 2021 Ford Transit Bus will be pitched at fleets, commercial operators and consumers as an alternative to the ever-popular Toyota HiAce Commuter, which last year dominated the segment with a 90 per cent market share.
Powering the new Ford Transit Bus is a 125kW/390Nm 2.0-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine that drives the rear wheels via a 10-speed automatic transmission.
Access to the rear of the cabin – which offers nine seats in total, together with three pews in the front row – is facilitated by a powered left-hand side sliding door, which can be operated via the key fob or a switch on the dashboard.
A $2500 optional higher-roof model, which offers overhead storage and LED reading lights for passengers, is also available.
Infotainment is facilitated by an 8.0-inch colour touch-screen equipped with Ford’s SYNC3 software, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The Transit Bus can also be paired with the FordPass App, which unlocks services including remote start/stop, remote lock/unlock, live traffic updates, location services, vehicle status and ‘health alerts’.
Hard-wired satellite navigation costs an additional $600, while prestige paint adds $650.
As well as AEB, other driver assist features fitted as standard include:
• Adaptive Cruise Control
• Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) with Rear-Cross Traffic Alert
• Lane Keeping Aid
• Lane Departure Warning with Driver Alert
• Traffic Sign Recognition
• Automatic High Beam
• Automatic front windscreen wipers
• Heated windscreen
• Programmable MyKey
• Rear-view camera
• Front and Rear parking sensors
The 2021 Ford Transit Bus is backed by a five-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty as well as capped-price servicing spaced across 12-month/30,000km intervals.
Ford also says the Transit Bus is eligible for the Ford Service Benefits program at participating Ford dealerships, “which means the most you will pay is $399 (incl GST) for items listed in an A or B standard logbook service for the first four years or up to 120,000km, whichever comes first”.
“We know our customers have always loved the Transit Bus, but there’s been a strong demand for it to come with an automatic transmission,” said Ford Australia chief Andrew Birkic.
“We can now deliver on that wish and help groups of Aussies travel in comfort and style, whether that be sports teams off to their big game, a shuttle to the airport, or colleagues heading to a conference.”
