New Ford Transit makes Oz debut
Ford confirms two new Transit commercial vans for Australia by early next yearFord’s new Transit made its Australian debut in Sydney today, when the Blue Oval also confirmed two versions of the redesigned commercial van will go on sale here early next year.
The new Transit Custom and Transit Cargo are claimed to be the most stylish and safest Transits ever. Armed with “a car-like interior and driving experience, class-competitive load-carrying ability, low cost-of-ownership and legendary Transit heritage,” Ford says the two models will appeal to a broader range of customers, including tradesmen and small businesses.
Australian will be offered multiple derivatives of the latest Transit, including a range of roof heights, Single and Double Cab chassis models and a 12-seater bus.
While power will come from Ford’s latest 2.2-litre Duratorq TDCi diesel engine, the latest Ford technologies will be available inside, including the SYNC voice-activated connectivity system.
Ford says the new model offers class-competitive load carrying ability, including a number of new load-space features like a unique integrated roof rack system and a load-through hatch in the bulkhead for extra-long items.
“These two cargo carriers are designed to meet the most demanding needs of van users small and large,” said Ford Motor Company Chief Operating Officer, Mark Fields, in a lavish future model presentation at Sydney’s Fox Studio’s this afternoon.
Ford has sold about seven million Transit vehicles globally since 1965 and both new models will be sold in 90 markets worldwide.
“We are bringing Australians a full family of stylish, innovative, safe, high quality, fuel efficient and fun-to-drive vehicles,” said Ford Australia President and CEO, Bob Graziano. “The Ford Transit Custom is a new kind of Transit, with a distinctive new design direction and a host of advanced features that will appeal to our customers.
“We’re committed to offering our customers the latest technologies and design and that includes providing wider choices for those customers seeking more versatility from their van. Both are stylish, modern vans that our customers will be proud to have in their driveway and yet will have the hard-working attitude customers expected of a Ford Transit.”
