Subaru Australia will get the jump on Europe when the next generation Legacy (Liberty in Australia) and Outback models are launched here one week ahead of their official unveiling at the Frankfurt motor show on September 17.
Both cars are built on an entirely new platform from Subaru and are longer, wider and higher with decidedly rakish looks.
US-market versions, which have a wider body than in other markets, were unveiled at the New York motor show earlier this year.
According to the company, both US-market and (narrower) Japanese versions already on sale are already being lauded for improvements in interior space, safety levels and standard specification.
The company says Australian versions will be offered with the option of six-speed manual or "Lineartronic" CVT transmissions, as well as the 3.6-litre horizontally opposed "boxer" six-cylinder engine already used in the Tribeca SUV.
Standard powerplant will be the familiar 2.5-litre four-cylinder boxer engine.
