New HiLux leaked

Toyota's next-generation one-tonne workhorse emerges in leaked pics

We saw the first spy shots last September and Toyota is heavily advertising the current model ahead of the all-new HiLux's arrival later this year.

Now what appear to be first images of the next-generation HiLux in final production form appear to have hit the internet via Autoblog Greece.

No information was published alongside these partial front and rear images, but if they do indeed depict the replacement for Australia's top-selling ute, it will be a radical departure from the current HiLux.

While the rear-end doesn't depart radically from the outgoing model, the front-end is much rounder and features wrap-around headlights flanking a chromed two-bar grille.

Our sources have confirmed the new HiLux will not make its world debut at March's Bangkok motor show in Thailand, where the HiLux is produced – and where we expect the facelifted Ford Ranger and Mazda BT-50 to be revealed ahead of their mid-year local releases.

So it remains to be seen where and when Toyota reveals its vital new workhorse, but rest assured we'll bring you all the details when it does. New Nissan Navara and Mitsubishi Triton utes are also due on sale here – in the first half of this year.

As we've reported, the next HiLux is expected to grow in size over the N70 series introduced locally in 2005, but will again come in single, extended- and dual-cab forms, with improved petrol and diesel engines.

It is also expected to spawn a wagon version to replace the Fortuner sold outside Australia, which is anticipated to be sold here this time round and will also receive technical input from the company's Melbourne-based Toyota Technical Centre.
