The incoming 2022 Honda Civic Type R will be officially revealed in just over a week, with the Japanese car-maker announcing today that its new-generation hot hatch will be unveiled next Thursday, July 21.
Honda has also given us a preliminary look at the redesigned nose of the Civic Type R in a video posted on its YouTube account, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the original Civic’s launch.
Having already set a new front-drive lap record at Japan’s Suzuka raceway, the new Type R is touted as “the most powerful, best performing” Civic ever.
It’s expected to go on sale in Australia before the end of 2022.
When it arrives, the 2022 Honda Civic Type R is expected to have a mildly tuned version of the outgoing model’s 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine (228kW/400Nm), downgraded in Australia due to the high sulphur content in our fuel.
A six-speed manual gearbox has once again been confirmed, together with a limited-slip differential to boost traction.
With a bit more power, a 0-100km/h sprint of around 5.5 seconds and a 275km/h top speed are already being mooted.
The new Honda Civic Type R will crown a slimmed-down Civic range in Australia that currently only includes a solitary high-spec VTi-LX model. A hybrid version is also expected.
Like those cars, the Type R will be subject to a no-haggle pricing policy, courtesy of Honda Australia’s ‘agency’ business model that’s now been in place for 12 months.
The previous model was priced from $54,990 plus on-road costs.
Honda says the livestream reveal will commence at 12:00pm AEST on July 21.
