New Honda Odyssey from $38,990
Honda's next-generation Odyssey will be almost $4000 more expensive than its predecessorHonda Australia has announced a starting price of $38,990 plus on-road costs for its all-new Odyssey people-mover a week before its official release (on February 11).
That makes the new entry-level Odyssey VTi $3890 more expensive than the base model it replaces ($35,100 plus ORCs), while the flagship Odyssey VTi-L ($47,620 plus ORCs) is $4700 pricier than the Luxury variant it replaces.
The price hikes will see Honda’s stalwart people-mover now priced in line with Australia’s top-selling people-mover, Kia’s aged Grand Carnival (also from $38,990) and Hyundai’s iMax SLX (from $38,290).
Aided by the availability of diesel power, both the Carnival and iMax outsold the outgoing Odyssey in Australia last year.
The higher Odyssey pricing also positions it closer to the likes of Toyota’s Tarago (from $48,990), Volkswagen’s Multivan, the Mercedes-Benz Vito (from $49,990) and Chrysler Grand Voyager (from $57,500).
Prices for both new Odyssey variants include metallic or pearlescent paint and a CVT automatic transmission, and all models will be powered by a new 2.4-litre four-cylinder petrol engine featuring Honda’s ‘Earth Dreams Technology’.
As such, combined fuel consumption is reduced by 14 per cent, to as little as 7.6L/100km, with CO2 emissions falling correspondingly to 178g/km.
As we’ve reported, the larger new Odyssey will be available in both seven- and eight-seat guises for the first time and comes standard with daytime running lights, a wide-angle reversing camera and one-touch power sliding doors (one for the VTi, two for the VTi-L).
Full details will not be released until next week, but Honda says its latest people-mover will also feature a “state-of-the-art audio system and several new advanced technologies to ensure peace of mind”.
