New Isuzu D-MAX launches in Thailand

Following its Bangkok debut, Isuzu's new one-tonne ute readies for 2012 delivery Down Under

After its unveiling in Bangkok last month, the all-new Isuzu D-MAX is primed and ready for Australian delivery.

Slated for arrival in Q2 next year, the new generation one-tonne utility presents an aggressive fascia, with a bulkier stance than the outgoing model. But it’s not all smoke and mirrors, the added heft truly indicative of the vehicle’s considerable increase in size.

Built upon a newly developed ladder frame chassis the new D-MAX is stiffer than the model it replaces. Added cross bracing at the rear aim and a 45mm increase in wheelbase not only improve durability, but also stability when laden or towing heavy loads.

Interior space has also grown with Isuzu saying rear space, access and oddment storage is considerably improved. A new dashboard and more contemporary decor also lift the ambience of the cabin. Bluetooth telephony and a new audio system with iPod connectivity now come as standard.

Under the bonnet, the new D-MAX offers an increase in both power and torque from its 3.0-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel engine, now outputting 130kW/380Nm. The torque curve is now more linear which Isuzu says will improve drivability, especially when towing.

A new five-speed automatic also joins the range, alongside a standard five-speed manual transmission.

Front, side and curtain airbags are now available, while stability control is fitted as standard across the range. D-MAX’s anti-lock braking system also includes a revised emergency brake assist system and load-adaptive electronic brake-force distribution.

Full model line-up and specification details will be finalised shortly, though Isuzu Ute Australia can confirm that the model range will be offered with single, space and crew-cab body options.

“We are very much looking forward to the arrival of the all new D-MAX in showrooms in 2012”, said IUA general manager, Paul Vuko.

“Combining the renowned Isuzu heritage with the robust new line-up, it is going to be a serious contender in the one-tonne utility market providing new opportunities to further strengthen the growing Isuzu D-MAX brand in Australia.”
