This is the first look at the new Kia Sportage that is due to arrive in Australia mid-year. Longer, lower and wider than the current model, the new Sportage adopts Kia's new design language already seen on the Cerato, Sorento and Soul.
Although local specifications of the car are yet to be locked away, Kia Australia spokesman Jonathan Fletcher gave the Carsales Network an indication of what to expect.
As with the current Sportage range, Fletcher is anticipating both petrol and diesel engines. He also revealed that the diesel engine will likely be a new generation, more advanced unit than the one found under the bonnet of the current Sportage.
The current car is available in both front and all-wheel drive variants and Fletcher said this is expected to continue but stressed a final decision hadn't been made yet.
The same story applies to the price. With the final specifications not yet set in concrete, Fletcher said it was too difficult to give an accurate indication on price, but speculated that it wouldn't vary too much from the current range.
Further details of the new Sportage will be revealed at the official unveiling at the Geneva Motor Show that starts March 2. Further Australia details will follow after that, when the local plans are finalised.
