New Lexus cuts the cord

The launch of the new Euro-challenger IS250 also sees the demise of the Camry-based ES series cars in Australia.

Lexus Australia has ushered in its new IS250 and killed of the relatively unloved ES300, the car which most obviously exposed the brand's Toyota origins.

The arrival of the all-new IS sends a clear message to Europe's prestige makers. The demise of the current Camry-based ES will help send a clearer message to would-be Lexus buyers.

By shaking off the current ES300 -- perhaps unkindly dubbed by one pundit "a tarted-up Camry" -- the brand effectively now presents an all-Lexus face in Australia.
