New Lexus ES range detailed

Lexus Australia has detailed the model range and specifications for its facelifted 2021 Lexus ES mid-size sedan, but pricing is being kept under wraps until closer to its launch on September 29.

The outgoing ES range is currently priced from $62,525 in ES 300h Luxury guise, rising to $71,500 for the ES 300h F Sport and topping out at $77,000 for the ES 300h Sports Luxury, all before on-road costs are added.

However, as previously reported, a new non-hybrid Lexus ES 250 will slot in as the new entry level to the model range. It will also be offered in F Sport trim, but not Sports Luxury.

Elsewhere, pricing is expected to rise with a broad range of upgrades both inside and out, plus mechanical improvements and additional safety systems across the range.

Most notably, a larger 12.3-inch touch-screen features in all grades for the first time, bringing Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, digital radio, satellite navigation and a 10-speaker sound system.

A 7.0-inch digital driver’s instrument cluster also now comes standard.

In another first for the ES sedan, every updated variant will also be fitted with Lexus Connected Services, Intersection Turn Assist and Emergency Steering Assist.

Other standard safety and driver assistance features in all grades includes autonomous emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian and daytime cyclist detection, blind spot monitoring, auto high beam, adaptive cruise control, lane trace assist, traffic sign assist and tyre pressure monitoring.

According to Lexus, the range-topping ES 300h F Sport will bring enhanced body rigidity and more controlled adaptive variable suspension (AVS), while the new entry ES 250 will be lighter, more agile and come with a “higher focus on driver engagement and enjoyable dynamics”.

The ES 250 uses a 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that delivers 152kW of power and 243Nm of torque. It drives the front wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The ES 300h uses a carryover 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol-electric hybrid powertrain that has a combined power output of 160kW.

Performance and fuel consumption figures are most impressive in hybrid-powered models, with the ES 300h said to sprint from 0-100km/h in 8.9 seconds, 0.2sec ahead of the ES 250, and return 4.8L/100km on the combined cycle (ES 250: 6.6L/100km).
