The world premiere of the 2021 Lexus ES will take place at the Shanghai motor show on April 19, and to whet our appetite the Japanese brand has revealed a single teaser image and a brief video.
Emerging three years after the seventh-generation ES was unveiled in 2018, the mid-life update appears to have made only detail changes to the exterior, with the teaser image of the headlight cluster bearing a similar design but with tweaked daytime runners and main beams.
As for the teaser video, little more can be seen. The rear-end design appears to carry over the same tail-lights – joined by a vertical-running chrome strip – along with the same boot lid spoiler and rear bumper.
The current Lexus ES line-up ranges in price from $62,525 plus on-road costs in entry-level Luxury grade, to $77,000 plus ORCs for the top-spec Sports Luxury.
Every ES delivered Down Under is powered by a petrol-electric hybrid powertrain that combines a 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with two electric motor/generator units. The combined output is 160kW.
Power is sent to the front wheels via an electronic continuously variable automatic transmission (e-CVT).
Standard gear across the range includes autonomous emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian detection, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, road sign recognition, high beam assist and tyre pressure monitoring.
Given that it’s now at the mid-point of its current lifecycle, the 2021 Lexus ES should bring a host of improvements.
Watch out for more details in the days ahead.
