Finnish tyre-maker Nokian has rolled out a new tyre for the North American market that's claimed to have a life expectancy of more than 80,000 miles (129,000km).
Called the Nokian One, the new longer-lasting, all-season tyre is claimed to be available in 70 different sizes for 14-20-inch rims and is said to consist of a new mix of compounds and aramid fibres that are normally found in bulletproof vests.
The strong synthetic fibres are embedded within the tyre's sidewalls to give it added protection from sharp road debris and to absorb a pothole strike without damage.
In fact, Nokian is so confident its tyres will withstand the impact of a poorly surfaced road it is throwing in a warranty for US buyers that will replace the tyre for free if it is damaged by a pothole or other road hazard.
There's no word on whether Nokian plans to redesign the tyre for hot climates like Australia.
In North America, the Nokian One sells from $US100 ($A129) to $US250 ($A323) per tyre.
