New-look 2024 Skoda Octavia teased again

The facelifted 2024 Skoda Octavia has been teased again ahead of its unveiling later this month, with the latest images providing the most revealing look yet at the upgraded mid-size passenger car range.

Following on from an earlier teaser, this time the new Skoda Octavia does without a drape but remains in a darkly-lit studio.

Despite this, it’s still possible to make out some of the detailed changes over the current fourth-generation liftback sedan that was introduced back in 2019.

These include bolder headlights that now incorporate triple C-shaped LED daytime running lights, as well as a new-look grille, revised bumper design and SKODA lettering on the rear boot lid.

Not pictured are the expected tweaks to the tail-lights on both the sedan and wagon.

Likely to be released to coincide with the Geneva motor show that opens on February 26, the European launch of the facelifted Octavia will occur in the second half of this year ahead of a likely Australian arrival in the final quarter.

Skoda has yet to reveal what’s happened under the bonnet, but it’s thought to mirror changes wrought on the smaller Kamiq SUV.

For our market, the Octavia should still be available with a 1.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder (110kW/250Nm) and a more powerful 2.0-litre turbo (180kW/370Nm).

The smaller engine will be combined with an eight-speed automatic transmission, while the 2.0-litre turbo will keep its more sophisticated seven-speed dual-clutch.

What won’t be part of the Australian line-up are the upgraded plug-in hybrid models that will be introduced in Europe, with Skoda Oz keen to skip straight to the all-electric 2024 Skoda Enyaq that’s due later this year.

Since it will be based on the overhauled MQB Evo platform, the new 2024 Skoda Octavia is set to bring a number improvements including a larger infotainment system with back-lit sliders for the climate control’s temperature, plus a number of new technologies that could include an AI-powered on-board virtual assistant.

It’s thought the driver assist system will also be upgraded to improve the car’s semi-autonomous driving functionality.

The Octavia liftback is currently priced from $42,490 drive-away for the entry-level Style and $56,990 drive-away for the RS hero model. The wagon commands a $1500 premium.

In 2023, sales for the Skoda Octavia were up by an impressive-sounding 45 per cent on its 2022 performance, although that only equates to just 1395 deliveries – well behind the likes of the Tesla Model 3 (17,347) and Toyota Camry (10,581).
