The Ford Transit has been upgraded with the addition of autonomous emergency braking (AEB), improved infotainment and new exterior and interior designs.
The big Ford commercial joins the smaller Transit Custom van and Ford Ranger ute in bringing AEB with pedestrian detection as standard across the range (previously optional), as well as the latest SYNC3 multimedia system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
In addition, the Ford Transit gains a colour reversing camera, front/rear parking sensors, front fog lights and, for van variants (not cab-chassis models), blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.
These safety features are in addition to range-wide safety devices including adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, lane keeping assistance, lane departure warning, traffic sign recognition, automatic high-beam, auto headlights, auto windscreen wipers, heated windscreen, programmable MyKey and a 230V inverter with 400W universal socket.
All upgraded Ford Transit models wear a fresh front-end design with a new front bumper and trapezoidal three-bar grille, new bonnet and new headlights.
Inside, there are new seats and a new dashboard with updated instruments, new control panels and larger 8.0-inch SYNC3 colour touch-screen to replace the previous 6.5-inch display. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity are stand, while voice-activated sat-nav is optional.
The 2020 Ford Transit range comprises 350L RWD and FWD Van, 350E RWD Van and 470E RWD Van, Single Cab Chassis and Double Cab Chassis variants.
All models are powered by a Euro 6.2 emissions-compliant 125kW/390Nm 2.0-litre EcoBlue turbo-diesel engine matched to six-speed automatic transmissions.
All models come with Ford’s five-year unlimited-kilometre warranty, 30,000km/12-month service intervals, Ford Service benefits at $349 per scheduled A or B logbook service and SYNC3 map updates.
“The tech-loaded next-gen Transit is a real step change when it comes to giving customers more convenience and helping them be more productive on the move. These extensive upgrades – inside and out – like SYNC3 with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, are what customers tell us they’ve been looking for,” said Kay Hart, President and CEO, Ford Australia and New Zealand.
“With AEB now standard on every Transit – and our whole commercial vehicle line-up – Australian customers can benefit from this significant technology whether they’re in a Transit, Transit Custom or Ranger.”
