The 2021 Peugeot 5008 has been revealed and the facelifted seven-seat SUV adopts many of the upgrades seen on the smaller Peugeot 3008 unveiled earlier this week.
Like its five-seat sibling, the Peugeot 5008 brings fresh exterior styling, an updated interior, more safety features and will also become available in Australia in the first quarter of next year.
However, unlike the 3008, the longer 5008 won’t be offered with all-wheel drive or a plug-in hybrid powertrain, as seen in the 2021 3008.
Peugeot Australia is yet to announce local specs, but it has confirmed the 5008’s existing four-cylinder turbocharged petrol and diesel engines will carry over.
Therefore it will be available with the 120kW/240Nm 1.6-litre petrol engine that powers the current entry-level Peugeot 5008 GT-Line ($51,990 plus ORCs), and the punchier 133kW/400Nm 2.0-litre diesel engine seen in the current GT Blue HDi flagship ($58,990 plus ORCs), both matched as standard with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
That means the biggest improvements for the 2021 Peugeot 5008 take place on the outside, where a new grille and headlights bring the wagon into line with the large Peugeot 508 Fastback and Sportwagon. As with the revised 3008, an exterior black package will also be offered, at least in Europe.
Interior upgrades include the shift from an 8.0-inch touch-screen infotainment set-up to a larger 10.0-inch display, along with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.
Finally, safety advances include a night vision system able to see more than 200 metres beyond the high-beam headlights, joining an autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system that detects pedestrians and cyclists within a 5-140km/h speed range, lane-keeping with steering assist, adaptive cruise control with stop/go, and an upgraded traffic sign recognition system.
