Mazda Australia has announced pricing and specs for the Single Cab and Freestyle Cab versions of the new Mazda BT-50 ute.
The bad news is that – as with the 2020 Mazda BT-50 Dual Cab that arrived in September with a base prise rise of $15,000 – pricing for the two-door and extended-cab versions of the all-new Isuzu D-MAX-based ute have skyrocketed.
The 2020 Mazda BT-50 XT Single Cab Chassis 4x2 auto (there is no longer a manual) now costs $36,550 plus on-road costs (Manufacturer’s Listed Price), which is $7490 more than the old 2.2-litre model ($29,060) it replaces and $4290 more than the previous 3.2 version ($32,260).
Drive-away pricing (or the Recommended Delivered Price, as Mazda calls it) is $43,191, or $39,990 for eligible ABN holders (the ‘Small Fleet Delivered Price’).
Meantime, the 2020 Mazda BT-50 XT Freestyle Cab Chassis 4x2 auto (again, no manual) now costs $40,050 plus ORCs – $2620 more than the 3.2-litre manual model it replaces. Drive-away prices are $46,634, or $43,490 for small businesses with an ABN.
On the 4x4 front, the 2020 Mazda BT-50 XT Single Cab Chassis 4x4 manual is priced at $41,550 (up $1270), or $48,369 drive-away ($44,990 for ABN holders), with the auto priced $2500 higher.
Finally, base pricing for the 2020 Mazda BT-50 XT Freestyle Cab Chassis 4x4 manual is now $45,050 plus ORCs (up $580), or $51,836 drive-away – $48,490 for ABN holders.
Entry-level XT will be the only equipment grade available for single- and extra-cab versions of the new BT-50 and all vehicles sold at MLP will come without a tray.
Drive-away prices (both Recommended Delivered and Small Fleet Delivered) include a Mazda Genuine Accessories Standard Alloy Tray, which costs an extra $2470 (fitted) for MLP single-cab buyers and $2300 (fitted) for MLP extra-cab buyers.
A wide range of genuine dealer-fit accessories will be available for the new Mazda BT-50, which has been awarded a maximum five-star ANCAP safety rating and is powered exclusively by a 140kW/450Nm 3.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel.
It’s matched with a six-speed automatic transmission as standard in XT 4x2 Single and Freestyle models, with the option of a six-speed manual only available for 4x4 models.
Combined fuel consumption for all variants is 8.0L/100km (down about 20 per cent on the Ford Ranger-based model it replaces), thanks in part to weight reductions of around 50kg depending on spec.
All models ride on the same 3125mm wheelbase, measure the same 1870mm wide and 1800mm high, have the same 29.6- and 23.9-degree approach and ramp-over angles, and also share the same 235mm ground clearance, 800mm wading depth and 3500kg braked towing capacity (750kg unbraked).
However, Freestyles are 40mm longer overall (5320mm) than single-cabs, which have a slightly better (25.3-degree) departure angle, while payloads vary from 1120kg (Freestyle 4x2) to 1135kg (Freestyle 4x4), 1171kg (Single Cab 4x2) and 1186kg (Single Cab 4x4).
Standard safety equipment for all XT variants includes autonomous emergency braking (AEB), lane departure warning, lane departure prevention, lane keep assist (automatic models), attention assist, blind spot monitor, emergency lane keeping assist – overtaking, rear cross traffic alert, reversing camera, eight airbags, adaptive cruise control (automatic models), cruise control (manual models), emergency stop signal, automatic high beam, hill descent control, hill launch assist, speed assist system, turn assist, rollover protection and 'secondary collision reduction'.
All models also come with a 7.0-inch full-colour infotainment touch-screen, wireless and USB Apple CarPlay and USB Android Auto (USB), Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, DAB+ digital radio, 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, powered body-colour wing mirrors, black cloth upholstery, air-conditioning, power windows, carpet floor covering and a rear differential lock (4x4 models).
Like all Mazdas in Australia, the new BT-50 comes with a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty with roadside assist and a guaranteed future value program if purchased via Mazda Finance.
Service intervals are 12 months or 15,000km, whichever comes first.
