Mazda has released a moody teaser image of what's tipped to be its all-new Mazda CX-4 ahead of its unveiling at the Geneva motor show in early March.
Said by the Japanese car-maker to preview a "new Mazda compact SUV" and a "brand-new addition to the Mazda line-up", the new model is expected to be positioned between the small CX-3 and the top-selling CX-5 mid-sizer.
Apart from being another offering in Australia's fastest growing new vehicle market segment, Mazda's fifth SUV model will provide the brand with a direct rival for popular small SUVs like the Nissan QASHQAI.
Currently the 'CX-4' name is already in use for a China-only model but, until now, the nomenclature has not been used in other global markets, paving its way for use on the new model.
Based on the car-maker's versatile and lightweight new SKYAVTIV Vehicle Architecture, the latest version of which debuts under the all-new 2019 Mazda3, the new SUV could benefit from being powered by the brand's advanced SKYACTIV-X compression-ignition engine.
As this images shows, the CX-4 will also be the second model after the next Mazda3 to feature the latest evolution of Mazda's 'Kodo' design language.
Featuring striking round LED tail-lights, it should also wear a more sculptured rear-end than any current Mazda SUV.
