Mazda has teased the all-new Mazda3 hours ahead of its global unveiling in the wee hours of Thursday (June 27).
We've just laid our hands on all the info and images for the new-generation Mazda3 during a press briefing in Melbourne, but it's embargoed until 4:30am AEST, June 27...
We'll publish all the details then, as the launch makes its way digitally around the globe, starting in Melbourne and then heading through St Petersburg, Istanbul, London, and finally to New York City, where the first public unveiling ceremony takes place.
In the meantime here's what we can reveal about Australia's best-selling car for the past two years:
The car will be Mazda first full SkyACTIV vehicle, that is, incorporating the full gamut of chassis and powertrain technologies designed to reduce energy consumption. Advanced fuel delivery, engine stop-start systems, and energy recovery systems are some of the expected features, and the result could make the new Mazda3 one of the most efficient vehicles in its class.
While the car's technologies will be of much interest, the car's design will be front and centre during the global launch. Images believed to be the new Mazda3 have already been seen, but there may be a few more surprises for the launch.
In an interesting move, Mazda has teamed up with Microsoft to stream the global reveal on Xbox Live, which represents a world-first (albeit a dubious one) for a car maker. Sony Playstation fans will be peeved, but can keep abreast of the situation via the #gamechanger hashtag.
The all-new Mazda3 is scheduled to arrive in Australia early in 2014.
