Pictures claimed to be the new McLaren Sabre have leaked online with speculation the heavily camouflaged hypercar could be the latest member of the car-maker's Ultimate Series.
Rumoured to be one of an ultra-limited (15-unit) run of hypercars, the car spotted at a McLaren dealership in California is thought to have been created by McLaren's MSO bespoke division.
Adding credibility to suggestions the wild new model will be named the McLaren Sabre, the Woking-based brand recently filed a trademark to use the nameplate in the USA.
The Sabre is understood to be inspired by the McLaren Ultimate Vision GT concept from 2017, with the proportions, cut-out rear windows and rear bootlid suggesting it is a heavily reworked, restyled McLaren Senna rather than an all-new hypercar from the British firm.
If true, that suggests the MSO creation has been subject to a huge amount of wind tunnel testing to hone its new aerodynamics that include an enormous rear diffuser, towering wing and LMP1 racer-inspired central shark fin.
Interestingly, instead of a simple frog-to-prince transformation of the gawky Senna, it's rumoured that the McLaren Sabre also gets a new electrified powertrain – but not the V6 hybrid recently officially teased by the car-maker.

Instead, the car pictured is claimed to feature the Senna's twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 that's been combined with a lithium-ion battery and two new electric motors, possibly powering the front wheels.
Rumoured to produce a combined 845kW and 1250Nm, the Sabre is set to be not only the most powerful McLaren of all time, but the fastest.
If those electric motors drive the front wheels, expect a 0-100km/h time of less than 2.0 seconds and a top speed north of 350km/h.

Aside from the V8, the advanced hybrid technology developed for the Sabre is expected to migrate over to the next-generation McLaren Sport Series that was recently teased.
With production limited to just 15 cars, the McLaren Sabre could be priced from as high as $3.3 million ($A4.6m).
