Do you live in a city apartment but your poor car has to park in the basement, or worse, the street? Well a new apartment development underway in Melbourne has quite possibly the coolest accessory for all the car lovers out there.
Located on St Kilda Road in Melbourne, the Neue Grand luxury apartments will have 19 full floor apartments which include what they are calling Australia’s first “sky garages”. These sky high car spots allow owners to show off their rides from behind a glass window which looks into the living room. Drivable artwork.
And how do you get a car up 20 levels? Residents will be able to drive into the building’s basement and onto a turntable which will securely send the car up to the private residence.
“We wanted to create something unique or the first one, not only in Melbourne but for Australia as well,” says Ronald Chan, chief executive of Growland, the developers of this building.
The sky garages will be compatible with most cars – if your car is extremely tall, long or heavy then you might have some issues sending it up the lift. Each apartment will also have a basement car space too so you don't have to park your Holden Viva or Daihatsu Charade in the living room if you don't want to. It also includes an electric charger too.
The sky garages also come with an apartment for non-cars to reside in which start from $4.3 million for a three bedroom apartment and goes right up to $23,888,888 for a four bedroom 'super penthouse' which will have four sky garages and two basement spots. A car owners dream.
Construction is expected to be completed by July 2021. It may not be flying cars in the near future, but a sky high garage is pretty close.
