Chinese-owned British brand MG has revealed a replacement for its eight-year-old rival for the Toyota Corolla, the MG 6.
Sold in Australia as the MG 6 Plus in three hatchback variants priced from $21,990, the original MG 6 was part of MG’s local rebirth last year, when it also launched the MG 3 light hatch, followed this year by the GS mid-size SUV.
MG Motor Australia will add the small ZS crossover to its line-up late this year, but is yet to confirm when the new MG 6 will arrive here.
MG’s redesigned small car, which emerges only in sedan form in China, was previewed by the sleek MG E-motion concept at the Shanghai motor show in April.
There’s a dramatic step up in style and design quality inside too, where there’s a large centre colour touch-screen and swathes of red and black double-stitched leather.
Full details – including engines, transmissions and safety technologies, are yet to be revealed, but MG says its new 6 rides on a 2715mm wheelbase – significantly longer than its key small-car rivals.
