New midrange Sprinter debuts
Mercedes-Benz has announced the release of a new addition to its Sprinter large van range..The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter range of diesel-powered vans has a new family member. The new 311 CDI is positioned between the 308 and 313 models and delivers 33 per cent more power than entry level model and 35 percent more torque.
On sale next month, the latest addition to the Sprinter model family boasts 80kW of power and 270Nm of torque from its four-cylinder turbodiesel.
It will be available in three different variants including a short wheelbase van, long wheelbase van with high roof and a Sprinter Cab/Chassis. According to Mercedes, the 311 CDI is the volume-selling model across most of Europe and is ideally suited to many fleet applications.
"Overseas experience has demonstrated the popularity of the 311 CDI with fleets and we are confident of extending the sales success of the Sprinter range in Australia with the introduction of the new model," said Campbell York, senior executive responsible for Mercedes-Benz Light Commercial Vehicle sales Down Under.
The Sprinter van range was introduced into the Australian market in 1998 and, according to Benz, has dominated the large van segment with a market share of between 27 and 30 per cent. Over 11,000 Sprinters have been sold in Australia since its introduction.
The new Sprinter 311 CDI is priced from $42,470 for the short wheelbase van (3550mm), $45,870 for the long wheelbase van (4025mm) and $38,400 for the cab chassis (3550mm).
