New Murano not clear cut

No local decision on facelifted Nissan -- yet

Nissan Australia has poured water on news that the updated Murano is coming Down Under. Responding to the Carsales Network's news story last week (more here), the carmaker says it is still to confirm plans to import the new all-wheel drive.

Nissan's Media Relations Manager Karl Gehling told the Carsales Network: "We're still to confirm the new car for Australia. At this stage, the current Murano will continue in our line-up."

Gehling said the timeline for the new car arriving in Australia was unclear.

"We'd like to have the new vehicle but there's lots of work to do before we can make an announcement. The current car will continue for the foreseeable future," Gehling said.

The Murano is built in Japan for domestic, US and key export markets including Australia. Gehling said it was likely the current model (which also sells in key right-hand drive markets like the UK) would be produced concurrently with the updated model unveiled at last week's Los Angeles motor show.

Sitting in the VFACTS Medium SUV segment, the Murano is a small if consistent performer for Nissan locally -- recording around 120 sales per month. The segment's top-sellers Toyota's Prado and the Ford Territory outsell it by around 10:1.
