New Nissan Micra revealed for Europe

But the next-generation electric-only city car won’t be coming to Australia

The all-new Nissan Micra has been revealed for Europe, with a fresh and futuristic design that plays on the popular nameplate’s familiar bulbous face.

But the sixth-generation battery-electric city car won’t be sold Down Under or even in its home market Japan; instead, it will be offered exclusively in Europe towards the end of 2025.

Closely related to the new Renault 5 E-Tech, the new Micra is underpinned by the same AmpR Small electric vehicle architecture and will be produced in collaboration with Renault alongside its hatchback sibling in France.

The Nissan Micra hasn’t been sold in Australia since 2016, when it was axed due to dwindling sales

Under the skin, the Micra will be offered with either a 40kWh or 52kWh battery pack. Powertrain options are yet to be confirmed, but it’s likely to offer Renault’s 70kW, 90kW or 110kW units.

That should see the Micra deliver an all-electric driving range of between 300 to 400km, while the mid-range model is expected to sprint from zero to 100km/h in less than 8.0 seconds.

Like the Renault 5 E-Tech, the new Micra sports retro design cues mixed with a familiar yet more futuristic face, designed by Nissan’s Design Europe studio in London.

Up front, sharply angled headlights surrounded by a pair of semi-circle LED daytime running lights add some rounded lines, while fresh wheel designs and all-new body panels give it a distinctive look.

Further details, including a peek inside the new Micra’s cabin, are still under wraps, but Nissan did showcase other new additions during its most recent market update in Japan.

Nissan revealed its next-generation Leaf as well as the all-new all-electric Juke small SUV for Europe, while also outlining its new third-generation e-POWER hybrid tech, which adopts a new dedicated 1.5-litre e-POWER engine.
