The Freelander 2 hasn't been around all that long (more here), but Land Rover is already mucking around with the vehicle's specification and calling it the 2008 model year upgrade.
In reality, the changes are limited to new or revised option packs.
Three new packs are introduced and one existing pack has been revised. The 'Premium' pack (pictured) for the HSE, the 'Style' pack for the SE and the 'Cold Climate' pack for all models are the three new packages.
For an extra $2990, the Freelander HSE with the Premium Pack gains body-colour bumpers, side sills and a rear spoiler also finished in body colour. Alloy wheels measure 19 inches and are finished in 'Shadow Chrome'. Door handles are presented in a co-ordinating 'Tungsten' colour.
Inside, the centre console storage bin is fitted with a roller shutter cover. The front seats are electrically adjustable eight ways (driver) or six ways (passenger) and feature a revised stitching and part-perforated side bolsters.
As for the Premium pack, the 'Style Pack' is priced at $2990 over the cost of the standard vehicle and comprises bi-xenon headlights with auto level adjustment, 17-inch alloy wheels of a new design and an electro-chromatic interior mirror.
For $1200, the 'Cold Climate Pack' features heated front seats, heated windscreen and heated windscreen washers.
The 'Technology' pack -- already available at extra cost with the Freelander HSE -- has been upgraded for the 2008 model year. Priced at $7890, the pack adds an Alpine, Dolby Prologic II 7.1 surround sound, 12 x 40W amplifier, subwoofer and 13 speaker sound system to the other items, colour DVD satnav, adaptive bi-xenon headlights with auto level adjustment; and Bluetooth telephone connectivity.
Prices for the standard vehicles have not changed and range from $49,990 for the Freelander 2 Si6 SE to $57,990 for the Freelander 2 TD4 HSE.
Explaining the reasoning behind the new package for the Freelander HSE, Land Rover MD, Phil Popham said "Now, the Premium Pack on the Freelander 2 offers subtle changes for those seeking an even more premium look to their vehicle, which we believe will give it even wider customer appeal."
