To build anticipation ahead of its March reveal, a new video of the lightly camouflaged 2021 Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo has been released online.
Set to make its official debut on March 4, the battery-powered Porsche Taycan wagon has yet to be confirmed for Australia, but a local launch is expected before the end of this year.
In the new video, it's clear that much of the 2021 Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo will be identical to the sedan but, from the B-pillar backwards, the roofline extends to give a rakish, almost shooting brake-style profile.
The bigger body brings an increase in practicality, Porsche says, with rear seat headroom expected to be the biggest beneficiary.
Cargo area volume is only expected to be boosted to 500 litres, just 53L more than the sedan, but the added bonus of being able to fold the second row of seats will provide extra space and more load-carrying flexibility.
For those lifestyle buyers there's also standard roof rails for extra luggage-carrying capacity.
In Europe, it's being suggested the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo will cost around $10,000 more than the equivalent sedan. For reference, the Taycan sedan is currently priced between $191,000 and $339,100.
The new Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo nabs much of the Taycan’s powertrain goodies, such as the twin-motor layout and fast-charging 800V electrical platform.
It’s expected to be offered with the 79kWh and 93kWh battery pack options that afford the Taycan sedan a cruising range of between 365km and 420km.
The Taycan wagon will also likely get the same power outputs from the twin-motor set-up as the Taycan sedan, with S, Turbo and Turbo S models pumping out tyre-scorching numbers – 390kW, 420kW and 560kW respectively.
Flagship Porsche Taycan Turbo S models can accelerate to 100km/h in just 2.8 seconds.
During the video, Porsche Taycan product boss Stefan Weckbach reveals that the Cross Turismo has been developed with light off-roading in mind, revealing the new pure-electric Porsche wagon will come with a CUV (cross utility vehicle) driving mode for enhanced traction.
When it arrives, a lack of pure-electric competition will see the 2021 Porsche Taycan Cross battle it out with the likes of the Audi RS 6 Avant and the Mercedes-AMG E 63 S wagon.
