Renault dealers around the nation are officially selling the new Megane off the showroom floor today.
Priced from $22,490 plus on-road costs for the Megane Life with manual transmission, the new model range is presented in a four-tier hierarchy, with Zen, GT-Line and GT models above the entry-level grade.
All models other than the GT flagship are powered by a 1.2-litre turbocharged four-cylinder, and a 1.6-litre turbo four powers the GT. Only the Megane Life is available with a manual transmission, all other variants featuring a dual-clutch transmission that's also offered as an option for the base model.
The smaller engine produces 97kW and 205Nm for fuel consumption of 5.5L/100km in combined-cycle testing when coupled with the six-speed manual. In 1.2-litre variants fitted with the seven-speed EDC (dual-clutch) transmission, the fuel consumption rises slightly to 5.6L/100km. Figures for the 1.6-litre Megane GT are 151kW, 280Nm and 6.0L/100km.
Standard features for the base-grade Megane Life include: Keyless entry/start, reversing camera/rear parking sensors, tyre pressure monitoring, R-Link2 infotainment system with seven-inch touch screen and digital radio, two USB ports/auxiliary jack, two 12V power outlets, cloth upholstery, leather-bound steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, auto-on/off headlights, rain-sensing wipers, LED daytime running lights, 16-inch steel wheels and a full-size (temporary) spare wheel.
Additional standard features for the Megane Zen comprise: 16-inch alloys, satellite navigation, front parking sensors, electric parking brake and an electric sunroof pack option (with sunroof, illuminated sunvisor and electro-chromatic rear-view mirror).
Also powered by the same engine, the Megane GT-Line features these following standard items over and above the Zen specification: Blind Spot Warning, Easy Park Assist, electric sunroof, side parking sensors, seven-inch colour TFT instrument panel with personalised settings, five driving modes, customisable ambient lighting, heated mirrors, Alcantara/leather upholstery, Nappa leather-bound steering wheel/gear shift, heated front seats, integrated headrests, rear privacy glass and 17-inch alloy wheels.
Options for the Megane GT-Line are 18-inch 'Grand Tour' alloy wheels and the premium pack (LED headlights, 8.7-inch portrait-oriented infotainment screen, Bose audio).
At the top of the range is the 1.6-litre Megane GT, with these standard features beyond the GT-Line level of trim: 4CONTROL four-wheel steering, Launch Control, sport suspension/brakes, chromed dual exhaust, revised bumper/rear diffuser, RS Drive sport mode, configurable exhaust note, shift paddles, alloy pedals, kick plate on driver's side door, Alcantara/leather upholstery with blue highlights, 18-inch alloy wheels and a space-saver spare wheel.
Options available at this level are the electric sunroof and premium pack as for the GT-Line.
"Renault Australia is delighted to announce the on sale date for the all-new Megane, one of our best known nameplates in Australia and yet another of our core models that has been completely reinvigorated," says Renault Australia MD, Justin Hocevar.
"It joins our recently launched Koleos medium SUV, ensuring Renault has all-new players in two of the most competitive segments. Along with Clio and Captur, Renault has one of the freshest passenger line-ups in Australia.
"The all-new Megane offers something for everyone, with each variant infused with Renault’s award-winning global design ethos. Its array of sophisticated technology is usually seen in more prestige vehicles and we are confident the all-new Megane will be a hit with Australians seeking superior levels of style, refinement and driving dynamics, all packaged at a highly competitive value proposition."
