New research reveals 1 in 4 Aussies have a nickname for their car

Are you someone who names their car? Well, you're not alone if these latest survey results are anything to go by.

Dash Cam maker Nextbase surveyed 1,014 Aussies about their opinions and attitudes towards driving. One of the more interesting revelations from this deep dive was that more than 1 in 4 (29%) people admitted to giving their car a nickname.

The most popular nicknames for cars in Australia in 2020 were:

  • The Beast (13%)
  • Mums Taxi (9%)
  • Big Red (7%)
  • Mean Machine (6%)
  • Bumblebee (5%)
  • Jellybean (5%)
  • Lightning McQueen (1%)
  • Yaris Hilton (1%)

12% of the surveyed participants had other names for their car while 1% of people have bestowed a crude or swear word-based name upon their vehicle.

The survey also revealed that 43% of Australians are planning to take a road trip this summer with 56% of Australians aged 25-34 years old planning a road trip before the end of February. With so many Aussies out on road trips, we can only image the in-car karaoke going on.
