Rolls-Royce has declared its new million-dollar Cullinan SUV so practical, “you can take your dog in it”.
Visiting Australia earlier this month, the global boss of the uber-luxury brand, Torsten Muller-Otvos, said the pioneering Rolls-Royce SUV marked a new direction. Equipped with a $685,000 price tag before on-road costs, endless options and personalisation add-ons, the newcomer promises to truly be the Rolls-Royce of SUVs.
“The Australian market is very much Cullinan. We delivered it to the world last year and we are now starting to deliver the first cars to customers and clients,” Muller-Otvos said.
“Cullinan is the very first Rolls-Royce that is practical, to a certain extent. It’s a car you can use daily, something the owner would never have used before.
“It’s a car for all opportunities, a car you can put your family in, your dogs, go out to an opera evening, whatever. It’s a fully suitable car and will be used as the first car in the household for school runs.”
Muller-Otvos said Australia had accumulated “a tremendous order book” for the Cullinan, with about 70 per cent of buyers new to the Rolls-Royce brand.
Rolls-Royce is so bullish about the Cullinan’s sales prospects that it has moved its Queensland dealership base from the Gold Coast to Brisbane, a move projected to increase sales for the car-maker.
“We are sold out of Cullinan now into the fourth quarter of this year,” Muller-Otvos said. “It’s really doing very well; it’s early days but I’m pleased to see cars received, and listening to customers that we’ve got it right.
“Cullinan could drive 50 per cent of growth in Australia, something like that. There’s potential here in the Australian market, and I think Cullinan could add to volumes.
“This is quite an important and big SUV market. For that reason, the Cullinan is the right product for this market.”
