When the second-generation Rolls-Royce Ghost is officially unveiled next week, it will come equipped with an exclusive interior feature that’s taken the British luxury car maker more than two years to perfect.
The Illuminated Fascia, as it’s named, has taken Rolls-Royce 10,000 collective hours to create and will present “an ethereal glowing Ghost nameplate surrounded by more than 850 stars”.
Echoing the brand’s famous Starlight Headliner, they will be displayed in front of the passenger on a large digital screen. The constellation and wordmark are completely invisible when the car is switched off.
The luxury marque says it chose not to use ‘simple screen technology’, instead employing 152 LEDs mounted above and beneath the fascia, all meticulously colour-matched to the cabin’s clock and instrument dial lighting.
To ensure the ‘Ghost’ graphic is evenly lit, Rolls-Royce says a 2mm thick light guide was used, featuring more than 90,000 laser-etched dots across the surface, to disperse light and create a ‘twinkling’ effect.
The Illuminated Fascia is part of the ‘Post Opulent’ design direction Rolls-Royce has chosen for its new Ghost, said the car-maker’s Lead Bespoke Designer, Michael Bryden.
“This elegant and minimal aesthetic is a specific response to the layer of clients who respond to Ghost: men and women who share a desire for a clean, pared-back expression of Rolls-Royce,” he said.
The global debut of the new Rolls-Royce Ghost can be watched live here at 10:00pm AEST next Tuesday (September 1).
