New sketches prove Ford plotting Bronco ute

Design sketches show how Bronco SUV will evolve into lifestyle-orientated pick-up

New drawings shown in a fresh video from Ford reveal how the Blue Oval is plotting a pick-up version of its upcoming 2021 Ford Bronco SUV.

The short film, created to show the innovative approach designers took while reimagining the Ford Bronco for the 21st century, features sketches that show the car-maker is considering producing a pick-up version.

Various drawings also show the Bronco with a fold-down tailgate, pick-up bed and a separate cab – either as a single or longer double-cab.

Based on these images alone, it's proof that the Ford Bronco will eventually evolve into a Jeep Gladiator rival.

The Bronco ute could potentially be on sale by 2024, with Ford said to be fast-tracking development of the model.

It would be powered by the same 2.3-litre (200kW/420Nm) and 2.7-litre turbo-petrol engines (230kW/540Nm) as the Bronco.

The new video also shows how modular the Ford Bronco is thanks to the Australian-designed T6 ladder-frame chassis that’s shared with the Ford Ranger.

Frustratingly for Aussie fans, the new-generation Ford Bronco won’t be available Down Under. It is among the growing list of Ford no-shows produced only in left-hand drive.

Meanwhile, in the US the 2021 Ford Bronco – available in both two-door and four-door guise, priced from less than $US30,000 ($A38,915) – will enter production around March, with sales set to kick-off in June.
