The updated 2021 Skoda Kodiaq is on track to arrive in Australian showrooms by December, bringing refreshed styling, more technology and new powertrain options.
It will be headlined by a new petrol-powered Skoda Kodiaq RS performance flagship, as the Czech brand moves away from the current 176TDI twin-turbo diesel engine in order to meet stricter European emissions standards.
We’ve seen official sketches and a few other teasers of the upgraded Kodiaq, which follows the seven-seat large SUV’s local arrival in June 2017.
Now, Skoda has released one more teaser ahead of the new model’s imminent global reveal, which is set to take place in Europe overnight.
The single darkened image shows off the side profile of the 2021 Skoda Kodiaq, revealing its slimmed-down headlights and tail-lights, as well as the same roof rails and sloping roofline that we’re used to seeing on the SUV.
Skoda says the updated Kodiaq will come with an “even more striking front-end”, including a redesigned bonnet, grille and front bumper.
Other key updates likely to be fitted include a more advanced 10-inch central touch-screen with natural-speak voice and gesture control, a touch slider and app-based features.
New features seen on the Skoda Octavia could also flow into the Kodiaq, including the latest version of Volkswagen Group’s virtual cockpit digital instrument cluster, a head-up display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, LED matrix headlights, and LED fog lights and tail-lights.
While full specifications are yet to be revealed, the entry 132TSI petrol powertrain will almost certainly be carried over, while the RS is likely be powered by the same 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine found in the Volkswagen Golf GTI.
Paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch auto which sends power to all four wheels, the 2021 Skoda Kodiaq RS will therefore likely produce 180kW/370Nm – which is a bit more power but, as you’d expect, much less torque than the diesel (176kW/500Nm).
Stay tuned for more details.
