Much to Dolly Parton’s dismay, we are no longer strictly working 9 to 5 but for most of us, that’s not a bad thing with a third of all Aussies commuting to and from work outside the traditional rush hours.
New research commissioned by outdoor billboard company, oOh!media followed the habits of around 2,000 Australian commuters which showed the shift in travel times. 42 per cent of commuters are beating the crowds of the traditional rush hour leaving work between 3pm and 5pm.

An unexpected result from this research is that only 16 per cent of people dislike their commute! Meaning 84 per cent of us like the crawl to and from the office. With so many things to keep you company on the drive, ride or walk home that is understandable.
oOh! Chief Customer Officer David Scribner attributed this change in commuter behaviour to the cultural shift to flexible working by Australian companies and technology.
“An increasing number of people are actually enjoying it, viewing their travel time as invaluable and a positive transition between home life and work,” Mr Scribner said.

Almost half of all commuters (48 per cent) use at least two modes of transport on their commute, with walking, trains and buses playing a major role. For those using the car to travel in and out of the office, the top activities besides focusing on the driving (which should be top of mind anyway) includes listening to music or podcasts (34 per cent), thinking about what needs to be done (29 per cent) and relaxing or day-dreaming (28 per cent).

Oh how times are changing. What we can all agree on is that we all can't wait for the weekend so we can get in the car and head out on an adventure.
