New Subaru BRZ almost sold out

Fewer than 90 examples of Subaru’s new-generation sports car are left ahead of December launch

The all-new 2022 Subaru BRZ is almost sold out in Australia, even before the first batch of the second-generation sports car is delivered to customers.

According to Subaru Australia, the first shipment of 500 vehicles have almost all been spoken for, with fewer than 90 cars still available.

What’s more, a spokesperson has told carsales that it was too early to confirm when and how many more will be allocated for Aussie buyers.

There’s also no official delivery date for customers who have secured a BRZ in the first allocation, however the first examples are expected to begin arriving from mid-December.

Subaru Australia opened online registrations for prospective buyers back in May, ahead of full local pricing and specifications announced in September.

Unveiled in November last year, the new BRZ will deliver 170kW of power (+18kW) and 250Nm (+38Nm) of torque from its new 2.4-litre four-cylinder boxer engine, which sends power to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission.

Standard equipment is set to include 18-inch alloy wheels, self-levelling LED headlights and daytime running lights (DRLs), dual-zone climate control and keyless entry with push-button start.

Top-spec models with also get heated and suede/leather-appointed seats.

Other tech and safety set to come standard includes an 8.0-inch touch-screen with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, digital radio and navigation, as well as Subaru’s EyeSight driver assistance suite that adds blind spot monitoring, lane assist and rear cross traffic alert.

Despite entering a new generation, the 2022 Subaru BRZ will continue with a sub-$40K price tag, with the entry-level manual BRZ priced from $38,990 plus on-road costs.

“The number of Australian customers already eagerly awaiting delivery to their driveway is testament to the great package the Subaru engineers have delivered with the next generation BRZ,” said Subaru Australia general manager Blair Read.

“Emboldened with Subaru's motorsport DNA, the Subaru BRZ is the car for drivers seeking an iconic vehicle that delivers raw performance, an exhilarating ride and enhanced driving dynamics.”

In contrast, the BRZ’s twin-under-the-skin – the 2022 Toyota GR 86 – will not launch in Australia until the second half of next year, although it will make an appearance at the Bathurst 1000 next month.
