Full details of the all-new Subaru BRZ have been announced for North America, where base pricing is lower than before at $US27,995 (about $A37,950) plus destination charge.
That applies to the new 2022 Subaru BRZ Premium with a six-speed manual – a slightly lower-spec variant that costs $US29,595 (about $A40,100) with a six-speed automatic.
Australian details are yet to be confirmed for Subaru’s new rear-drive sports coupe, online registrations for which opened in May ahead of first deliveries later this year.
However, if Subaru Australia follows the US example, the new BRZ could also be more affordable Down Under, where the outgoing model (if you can still find one) is priced from $35,270 plus ORCs and also available in Premium ($37,270) and tS ($41,190) forms.
Standard equipment for North America’s base MY22 Subaru BRZ Premium includes 17-inch alloy wheels, a Torsen limited-slip differential, LED headlights, keyless entry, push-button start and an 8.0-inch touch-screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Meanwhile, a range-topping BRZ Limited is priced from $US30,495 ($A43,800) in the US, adding larger 18-inch alloys with sticky Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres and extra driver assistance aids including blind spot monitoring, lane keeping assist, rear cross traffic alert and steering responsive headlights.
The interior of the flagship BRZ Limited also features heated Ultrasuede seats with red leather accents, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and variant-exclusive interior trim styling.
Like the 2022 Toyota GR 86 on which it’s based, the new Subaru BRZ eschews the current model’s naturally-aspirated 152kW 2.0-litre boxer engine in favour of a bigger and more powerful 2.4-litre flat four generating about 170kW/250Nm.
