New Subaru BRZ sold out

Subaru Oz confirms first batch of new-gen sports car has sold out, but more BRZ supplies on way

If you’re thinking of pulling the trigger on a new 2022 Subaru BRZ you will have to wait a while longer with news that the initial batch of 500 units has been totally exhausted ahead of first deliveries commencing over the coming weeks.

Subaru Australia is yet to confirm when the next allocation is due to arrive Down Under, however the pre-order book remains open and the next batch might not be too far away.

On an updated interest registration page on its website, Subaru encourages eager customers who may have missed out this time around to “keep an eye on” their inboxes, suggesting an ETA on the second allocation isn’t far off.

A Subaru isn’t giving much away either, telling carsales “more information about the next allocation will be communicated in due course”.

While we wait for an update, Subaru Australia managing director Blair Read said the exhausted first batch was “a true testament to the overall package the Subaru engineers have meticulously designed for the new-generation BRZ”.

The new BRZ rides on Subaru’s latest global platform and has inherited a bigger 2.4-litre engine, resulting in power and torque rising from 152kW/202Nm (manual) to 170kW/250Nm.

As before, drive is sent to the rear wheels via either a six-speed manual or continuously variable transmission.

Prices start from $38,990 plus on-road costs.

The possibility of a sell-out was flagged last month when it was revealed that less than 90 vehicles were still available from the initial batch.

The BRZ’s twin-under-the-skin – the 2022 Toyota GR 86 – will launch in Australia in the second half of next year.
